Five Years of Reflection – SK Celebrates 5 Years of Worship in Garner

Five Years of Services…

A small group of families meets with another church in a soon to be razed YMCA until they launch for services of their own.  From there, their home covers everything from a smelly dance studio, a civic building, an illegal speak-easy, an office building, and finally, the old free-weight room of a closed-down gym.

Nursery?  How about a rubber matted, mirrored dance floor or an industrial kitchen with fake walls or the office where the speak easy used to count its money?  Our nursery is so nice now we don’t even know how to act.

Music?  We have been through more bass players than Spinal Tap went through drummers.  But man oh man, we have some awesome, dedicated folks who not only can play almost anything but can also write beautiful, new music.

Ministries?  Who knew the Garner Police would let this shaggy, headed pastor be their chaplain?  The EMS too?  What a privilege it is to assist these incredible men and women with the daunting task of telling folks that their loved ones have passed.  Brutal but necessary.  But the real work is the loving folks of SK providing meals, care packages, Thanksgiving dinners, and events for public servants and their families.

The local women’s shelter?  Those wonderful folks found us, and we get to pray for them, love on them, provide Christmas presents for them and even help them with their house and yard work.  We probably get more from this than they do.

Along the way, God has blessed us to see the homeless take on new titles like “graduate” and “marine” while God has multiplied our monthly mercy offering to help folks pay the rent, buy cars, and take care of hospital bills.

Though Sovereign King is an incredible group of folks, we just cannot take any credit for any of these things.  We in humility have just lived out 2 Corinthians 1: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God

God has rescued our souls, He has rescued our failed efforts, He has even rescued us from the rent a couple of times, and that rescue is what we proclaim to Garner and the surrounding areas.

We invite you to join us Sunday, April 2nd as Sovereign King Church praises God for enabling us to worship in Garner for 5 years.  Worship begins at 10:30am.  You can find directions to our space at http://www.sovereignkingpca.net/1.2.html.
