Celebration – SK Service Preview for 062710

Celebration these days is typically limited to sports events.  With the Lakers winning their championship and World Cup fever overtaking the planet, celebrations on a large scale are usually about one’s team coming though in a clutch and raising banners.  Though those events are fun, and jumping up and down because someone scored a goal is reason to celebrate, eventually the moment dies away and thoughts turn to either next year or the next event.

This is not so in the life giving over to celebrating what God has done.  When celebrating His work, we are celebrating the eternal and the everlasting.  No need to hope for next year or fear about the effects of free agency.  Lifting up one’s voice to God is to praise Him for that which endures:  His glory.

This Sunday at Sovereign King, we will celebrate our last Sunday in our present facility.  The space is not eternal (by no means), but what God has done there in the lives of people is.  People have found forgiveness, comfort, conviction, and joy, and for that, we celebrate God’s goodness.

In the book of Ezra, when the people returned to Israel after being in captivity, God allowed them to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem.  When it was finished, they declared,

Ezra 6:16 And the people of Israel, the priests and the Levites, and the rest of the returned exiles, celebrated the dedication of this house of God with joy.

Our building in no way is the temple of God.  It is however a place that God has chosen to use and meet His people.  For that we celebrate.  If you would like to join us this Sunday at Sovereign King, we will meet at 10:30, and you can find directions to our space at http://www.sovereignkingpca.net/1.2.html.
