A Community on Fire

bonfireI want to do a better job of telling you all about things that other folks at Sovereign King are doing.  So often, I’m afraid the stories come across as if I’m driving the mission, but I think it is the people of SK that do it so well.

Last night was a wonderful picture of the community we are trying to create.  One great couple hosts a bonfire in their neighborhood each Halloween for their neighbors, and this year they opened up their home to the church on the 30th.  We had an incredible bonfire with nearly 50 people there last night.

Children ran around and played.  Friends talked.  People brought their neighbors and family.  We cooked hot dogs over the fire as well as smores.  The weather was perfect, and everyone was at ease.  There were at least 5 or 6 clusters of people talking at all times, and it was just chilly enough for some incredible hot chocolate.

Creating community is not always that hard.  It requires hospitable people like the great couple in our church opening their home to any and all.  People show up hoping to get to know each other better, relationships are formed, and community is strengthened.

I love the folks at Sovereign King Church.
